BEYOND LOOKS

Looks can be very deceptive,
It can only be known by a spiritual detective,
The outward appearance can make our eyes receptive,
A decently dressed man can be a ruthless fugitive.

Never base your judgement on the outward appearance,
'tis the inward man that has a lasting endurance,
A hooligan can appear as a man of temperance,
Discernment is never attained from a striking distance.

I was once carried away by the looks of someone,
He looked so innocent unknown to me he had a gun,
Beneath his cool poise was a countenance that could burn,
But from his head to feet a harmless mien was carefully worn.

She came to be his wife,
Her chief aim to end his life,
He showed her love she had a knife,
He had a heart-attack from her endless strife.

He was an angel in disguise,
But looked immersed in vice,
His companions were some verminous mice,
And a few seeming outlaws who loved to roll the dice.

Her outlook read 'bold',
Her heart was made of gold,
As a slave her rights had been sold,
Her helpless story would make the hottest feet go cold.

He looked quite unkempt,
Poverty-ridden and grossly in debt,
But beneath lay an untapped mental wealth,
A great reservoir of intelligible depth.

One thing I know is deeply certain,
You can't know a person by the looks he may retain,
Betrayal is a wasteful deadly pain,
But boomerang will always be its perpetrators gain!

She was a diamond in the rough,
Physically composed of undesirable stuff,
But within her lay a resolve so tough,
A determination to call the scorners judgement a bluff!

Just as you can't judge a book merely by its cover,
So you may never know which friend is closer than a brother,
It's only time that can reveal a man' true character,
You cannot decipher a book from its first chapter!
